Thunderbird indexing finally gone for good?

I am at the end of the trial.

I found several pretty old comments in this forum related to Thunderbird indexing in S8.
So, is Thunderbird indexing gone for good? Finally? Never ever?

I was not able to activate the workaround with WDSEML files.

Thunderbird indexing is pretty important to me. Is there a working alternative?
