Hi. I'm a big fan X1. I just got an email inviting me to the 8.3 beta, and I thought I'd take a look. I would give it a try, but the recommendation is that I uninstall the version I am currently running. While I understand why that might be preferable, it's also quite inconvenient, especially for a beta that will expire in 6 weeks or so.
It might also be worth noting that I am currently still using my registered version of X1 6.2.4, since I didn't care for the UI changes in version 7 (which IIRC was abandoned at some point) and that seem to have for the most part been carried forward into version 8. Truth is, I regularly think about updating X1, as I use it many times a day. But since I use it almost exclusively for Word docs, Excel sheets, PDFs, my Outlook containers (which have POP and/or IMAP access to all my online mail accounts), and do not use SharePoint, I've yet to actually find the incentive to do so. Version 6.2.4, from March 2009, is still working beautifully on my Windows 7 devices.
I'm probably not your typical user. But then in my experience X1 isn't a typical application in that I use it all the time, rely on, yet am unable to find a reason to upgrade it even though the enthusiasm and affection I feel for it would under other circumstances make me look forward to upgrading to the latest and, presumably, greatest. But version 6 hit a sweet spot where features, stability, and (or critical importance) UI are as good today as they were 6 years ago.
I have, however, recommend X1 to others and I know at least a couple of sales have resulted from that over the last year or so.
Is it possible to get an X1 tee shirt, like your team is wearing on the About page?
Best to you. And happy searching.
