Failure trying to connect to SharePoint

Trying to connect to SharePoint site for the first time. Error shows as:

"Server was unable to process request ---> There is no web named /sites/IS/default.aspx/_vti_bin/search.asmx".

The (pasted) URL is actually:

"http://mc.mascocabinetry.com/sites/IS/default.aspx"

What's the problem?
