mbox file parsing and indexing

I apologize that Thunderbird was before my time and I am very unfamiliar with it. I did some googling and learned that thunderbird can work with Gmail. Maybe you want to educate /me/ on if this is a viable option or not. Just trying to better understand and hopefully help with other options.
