V8 crash

Hi,

can you try another workaround - after configuring the external USB drive, stop both X1 UI and the X1 service host (Menu->Exit does that)

then, in the data folder, open the file FilesConfig.xml with a text editor. It will contain entries for each configured drive, looking like this:
Code:   <root path="D:\" name="D:\" whatToScan="None" type="FIXED_DRIVE">

Replace "FIXED_DRIVE" with "REMOVABLE_DRIVE" and save the file.
Now index the drive and see if the indexed files are kept after disconnecting it.

If this works, note that you will have to manually edit the FilesConfig.xml file each time you open the Files Options dialog and lose it with OK, as it will reset the setting.

I will do more research on the issue with external USB drives - and if we cannot reliably detect them, then we may add the option to manually mark a drive as Removable and keep the index.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to include any such changes in the 7th May release - it will have to wait for the first update afterwards.

But at least it's a workaround.

Wouldn't it be a real requirement to be able to clearly define a certain drive as remote?
Another example:
eSATA is there since years and we can't use it properly with X1.
According to your support, it's beacause how Windows handles the drives.

As windows offers the option to disconnect such a drive,
it knows that it is a remote drive...

However - there should be a manual option to "keep" an index, even if a drive is disconnected.
No matter what kind of drive it is.

Wouldn't you agree?
