First time indexing of network drive very slow going

I am using X1 Search 8.3.2.1 build 5003eb (64-bit) installed locally on my machine (Win 7 Enterprise) and attempting to index a network drive with approximately 500 GB of data including word, excel, OCR'd PDF's, Autocad drawings, text files, photos etc. The index location is in the default location on my C drive. I am using the evaluation version to see if it will be useful and am considering purchasing for at least my machine and maybe others in our office if I can demonstrate it's promised capabilities. It has come highly recommended to me and from what was described and by what I've seen so far I am very optimistic that I've found a solution that I've been searching for for a long time.

I installed the trial version and let it run overnight and it's only 29% complete and seems to be moving very slow. So far it says it has indexed 356,175 files. Is this typical of X1? Can I speed this up in any way? At this pace the trial might be expired before we are done indexing.

Once X1 is finished indexing, can I copy the index to a network location and "point" to it from other machines if we purchase other copies so we don't' have to rebuild the index each time we install on another machine or will each machine need to build it's own index?

Will building the index onto a network location rather than a local machine speed indexing of the network drives?
