Think of "File names and sizes, plus content for specified extentions (.doc, .ppt, etc.)" as a way of NOT indexing stuff.
Do you really want X1 to index the content of every single file on your PC? exe? bak? wbk? tmp?
I don't. I want to refine the list.
I can see no reason to index "Everything (all files)" especially when you have accumulated the detritus of years.
Another point is to think about what you can view in X1. If its viewer can't take you to the places in a file where words appear, and show you a representation of the file, what's the point?
Some people want that stuff. Some don't. Hence the options.
