Why do columns keep changing width?

The purpose of this post is to keep this message thread visible. X1 Search 8 is the best X1 ever! However, as with previous X1 versions, there is a persistent problem with inexplicably changing column widths. This requires manual reconfiguration every time it happens, which can be a daily occurrence.

Surely there is something the developers can do to provide an option to lock column widths?
