Is X1 Search 8 capable of working with Office 365? We've migrated to 365 and since then X1 isn't indexing.... Thanks!

So that means I can't use X1 to search for $10. Darn

Hi there,

We treat all special characters (&,@,#,$,etc.) as a space when we index. So, searching for "this.that" will return the same results as "this$that", "this#that", "this, that", etc.

This helps us keep the index size as small as possible.

Thanks!

How do you search for something that includes the dollar sign?

For example, I want to search my emails for the term : $10

If I search for: $10, '$10', or "$10", it includes results that just have the number 10 in them.

thanks

I am trialling the X1 Search 8 software with a view to purchase.

But I keep getting the message in the taskbar below

X1 Outlook Note Scanner

There has been an error reading from the pipe.

The pipe has been been ended (109,0x6d)

Before I purchase could someone let me know what this message is and is it something that has not worked correctly.

Many thanks in advance

V8.3.1.1 crashing during file indexing

Recently, X1 is constantly crashing during file indexing. I've eliminated other sessions and this is the only time it crashes.
Looking at the x1.log, I see the following exceptions prior to every crash:

Client not remembering column widths

I was trying to check the content indexing status for the filetype SCT. This is basically impossible to find because X1 lists this as "Windows Script Component" in the results list, and as "Lotus Screen Snapshot" in the 'specify file types' dialog. See image below (for as long as postimage.org hosts it..)

I have seen the "view not sticking" phenomenon when X1 has not closed properly. Not so much column widths as the array in the "Searches pane".

It seems that If you leave it to Windows to close X1, then the program does not always complete the process of writing its settings to the various ini files. This phenomenon is not restricted to X1. Other software can display similar behaviour.

The way I deal with this is to close X1 manually, from the icon in the Notification area. Then I restart X1 manually.

If that doesn't do it, then the "Shift+Exit" move can also help. Once again, this is useful with other applications.

The default column widths in the client are quite narrow. I always have to widen them in order to actually see any meaningful data. X1 used to remember these column widths. But ever since upgrading, X1 now never maintains these widths. How can I make this persistent?

Set Windows to use X1 in place of Intrinsic Search

That would be nice, but it isn't how X1 currently works. My guess is that it is down to how Windows works, as other index and search software seems to have the same issue.

X1 even removed the invaluable X1 Deskbar which allowed us to get away from the X1 user interface.

Set Windows to use X1 in place of Intrinsic Search

I stopped using X1 a few years ago once Microsoft integrated Windows Search into everything. Microsoft has created an environment where the OS heavily depends on Windows Search.

I really would like to come back to X1, but the problem is that after searching Google and the Forums, I don't see any information on how to get Windows to use X1 Search *in place of * Windows' Intrinsic Indexing/Search.

To repeat, I've searched prior to writing this. And .. I'm not asking how to disable Windows Search (have already done this) .. And .. I've read posts where people claim that X1 "just works" in place of Windows Search once it's disabled. That has not been the case for me.

I'm referring to (a) Search Box in eitiher the Modern-UI, or off the Start>Run button if you use a Win7 classic shell, the search box that is also integrated into the Windows File explorer along the menu bar. And finally, the intrinsic search within Outlook.

Is there a method to force Windows to use X1's search results with the input gathered through these UI's?

Thank you in advance!

Need help with a search - how to craft the query???

Hi -- I have a person who works for me who is very unresponsive, and I am getting ready for his performance review. I send him email, and he usually never responds or responds only after days. So I want to make a list of all email correspondence in order to document his behavior to give him specific coaching. For example, "I sent you X emails and you only responded to Y" and "your average response time was X hours"

So I think I want to search my email for the following conditions
1 - all emails sent AND received to/from ONLY to this certain person
2 - from 10/1/2014 until now
3 - sorted by date, then subject

How do I get the above to show up in a single search. Otherwise, I'd have to do multiple searches and compare the results.

Web Searches and Results

Yes, this is slightly off-topic, but I think this group is likely have folks who're able to help out and opine....

I use(d) a product called iMetaSearch to conduct web searches from my desktop. Its programming is such that as search engines began using the https protocol, it could not longer use them as engines. Information about the software is at puffinwarellc.com

For me, the amazing feature of iMetaSearch that makes me wish for an alternative was its ability to color tag and group results based on extracted words from the search. With sliders and a few clicks, one could easily refine their search results as well as discover sites that may not've been considered before.

Does anyone know of an alternative to iMetaSearch or of ways of similarly refining and adjusting results from search engines?

Wishing all a Happy Holiday and look forward to hearing back...

Even Google offers an install that uses the search "charm" as input and integrates with Windows, and that's for simple web searching.

Offering a search client on Windows, yet not integrating with Windows, seems to be a guaranteed path to obsolescence. Particularly when Microsoft comes with a search tool that *is* built-in and costs the user nothing.

I gave X1 a try again because I had that it could be integrated in Win 8, on the forums, what a shame it's not supported.

Authentiucation Failed – constant messages

I changed my password on outlook.com.

X1 naturally noticed the difference because it could not login and warned me with [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED].

Fine, change the password in X1. Test the credentials. All looks good.

But X1 now keeps throwing up an [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] invalid username or password for my @outlook.com address.

The puzzling thing is that I paused all indexing, but still that message keeps appearing.

I thought it might just be old messages popping up, so I exited X1. Messages vanished. But start up again, and they reappear. Pause all indexing, but still they happen.

I have removed Outlook.com as a data source, but still the messages keep popping up.

What gives?

OK - scrub that... after 12 hours or so it seems to have managed to reset on the last attempt. The original problem is still an active ticket though.

While attempting address an issue (x1 Search Case via Formstack Case #:00084710 [ ref:_00D30JpR._500a0pJHQR:ref ] indexing keeps restarting from 200,000) i was advised to deactivate my licence and reinstall. However the uninstall process is not able to complete and so i am awaiting further advise to proceed. In the meantime i am trying to get X1 to function in the interim and am aware that the New year period may delay response to my email. But i am not able to reactivate the licence as i get "the current licence has been deactivated for this machine" x1 search error (9102) extendederror (5016). And I cannot find x1cl.dat as per x1s8.com/problems-activating-or-downloading-x1-search$Error-9201">http://help.x1s8.com/problems-activating-or-downloading-x1-search$Error-9201 - Any immediate advice to get my x! back activated?

X1 desktop and Outlook - new file

MK - thank you for your insight, direction and kind guidance. I figured out how to get X1 to index the prior years file. Even though the Main Menu / Data Sources it still would not include the data file until I added it to the view in Outlook. From Outlook, File / Open / Open Outlook Data File ... That was the step I was missing.
Thanks again, appreciate the help.

X1 desktop and Outlook - new file

X1 has to be able to see your PST files. The main PST database will be a part of your Mail Profile in Windows. This is probably not the case for a renamed PST file. So you have to tell X1 where to find that file.

In the Menu, choose Manage Data Sources.

Now go to Outlook Email and hit the Edit link.

If you do not see your file xxx2014.pst, then add it.

You still have explained what you mean by

Quote:This has impacted the search results and preview of X1

If you mean X1 isn't finding things, then see above. I can't see how renaming a PST file would affect preview, so you may mean something else.

Simply renaming an Outlook PST file could itself cause problems. If this forces Outlook to create a new PST file, then you may lose some of Outlook's configuration. That's why my strategy is to let Outlook autoarchive older email to separate PST files.
