Emptiness of the table

I know this has been covered before on the beta forum, but I may still no wiser as to the use of the table view.

I use a laptop with a small screen, and turn off preview. In table view this is what I get when search for an email in table view. It provides no useful information about the email itself:

Is this is what is intended. Do I have to go to tile view?

Unfortunately since X1 only provides now online help I cannot find any further information, as clicking on the menu option for providing online help only produces the following:
