mrwul - your comments and questions are not viewed here as negative; all feedback is helpful. I'll try to address some of your comments.
1. RE: using previous settings.
In past X1 products, moving from 6.0 to 6.2, or 6.2 to 6.7 for instance, you did have that option. With version 8, changes made to the product design and coding have made it necessary to start with a "clean" install. I would hope to see that the 8.X and/or 9.x versions of the future will again have the ability to upgrade in place.
2. RE: Installer - You bring up a very good point. All I can do for now is document it as a feature request and have our PM and engineering team evaluate improving he installer in this area. For now, post install, you can go to the Menu button - Options - Indexing and redirect your indexes to the disk/directory of your choosing.
3. As Jogy posted earlier, with X1 8 you're now able to clear a targeted portion of the index structure within each data source. If you'd like to clear and re-index files only, you can.
