By ranking, I mean the order that each document and/or email is presented in the search results view. I want the documents/emails that I am looking for ranked higher in the search and presented at the top of the search results . The "magic" of the search engine is getting the search results ranking right.
Google does such a good job of ranking search results (search engine optimization, SEO) such that over 90% of people do not click through to the second page of Google web page so the search results ranking is important. That is Google is finding what a person is searching for in the first ten results out of the billions of web pages indexed by the Google search engine. However, Google has teams and teams of people continually tweaking the Google search engine. Also Google monitors how the user uses the search results to adjust rankings of future searches (eg. links that are clicked upon in the Google search results are ranked higher than links that are not). Over time the search rankings get better and better.
But as Google is commonly used, the same expectation from Google users to get great rankings for the top-ten results is also likely expected from users of X1 Search.
