I too have been using X1 for many years and now have it on a Surface Pro 3/i7 . After a long stable period and without any changes being made to X1 I ran into a startup failure which was that the Client failed to connect with the X1 Server. this is a never-ending issue that I cannot resolve. I wiped the whole X1 installation (It was only half way through indexing my 1.1 million emails frustratingly), and started again.
So after a successful re-installation the indexing started. Today I got offered 8.3.3 and jumped at the chance. However the upgrade fails with: "The installation cannot continue because the following applications did not shut down automatically: X1". This is after a clean boot, startup of X1 and running of the install. I have repeated and as the first part of the installation is running I have done a manual removal of all the other X1 processes. Same happens.
This is a great product when it's working, but no release I've ever had has been reliable and I spend a lot of time trying to make it so. Before the x64 I assumed I was throwing too much data at it. That should not be the case now?
