In any case, it isn't the X1 style to tell anyone to "get lost". That seems to be more common with tiny software houses that don't want to be bothered by people who won't buy the newest version as soon as it lands. (Can you spot bitter experience in there?)
I read it as a general "give it a whirl" invitation.
By the way, the cost of an upgrade to the latest version isn't likely to break the bank. I buckled and bought ... eventually.
I would, though, caution against it if you use any of the bits that X1, in its wisdom, or pursuit of the "enterprise" market, removed from the 6.X family. Like indexing RSS feeds.
