Opening the PST file in Outlook is not the best solution. It means that you have to keep the PST file open. If you close it, X1 will lose sight of the file and may lose track of the indexing.
You should be able to add the PST file in X1.

- Look at the bottom right-hand corner of the window, on the status line, you will see "Indexing......"
- Right-click that.
- Click the "cog" marked Manage Data Sources.
- Click the Edit Data Source "Pencil".
If not, something is bust in X1.
