There has always been an issue with displaying the progress of indexing.
As I understand it, in the past there has been the "percentage indexed" indicator at the bottom right, but that percentage indicated the state of the current indexing session rather than the total percentage indexed. So when it said 50 per cent it didn't mean that X1 was only half indexed. It meant that it had indexed half of the stuff that it was working on since starting that index session. So 50 per cent could have been 50 per cent of the 5 per cent of unindexed material.
I'm not sure how this applies to the popup that you see when you hover over the "Indexing files...." thing on the lower status bar. Is that bar a sign of the progress for the whole of Outlook or just the progress with its current workload?
