Say my company name is Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man Emporium. My email signature will have my name and my company name in it. That means that all of those words are in every single email.
Now, let's say I'm in a lawsuit. I've been commanded to find all emails where I talk about how inflatable my tube men are. One of the keywords I need to search is "inflatable."
If I search "inflatable," I'll get every single email in my search universe.
How can I search for the word "inflatable" but ignore "inflatable" when it is part of the email signature?
You may say to try: The problem with that is that it will exclude every email. It won't get anything. I can't use a NOT operator.
The functionality, if it exists, would need to work like this, I think:
I submitted a support ticket a couple years ago when I had this same issue, and it seemed that OR - worked for him, though I can't make that work now.
Technical: I'm searching within a PST file in Outlook 2013. The PST is about 2GB and has around 6,000 messages in it. The keyword isn't "inflatable." I'll give you a closer example to my actual use case (this is still a lie): I'm renting out a home near the beach. My listing description includes "Beautiful beach area home." I need to find inquiries from people who are asking about the beach, but if I search "beach," I get everything because "Beautiful beach area home" is in every email. I want to find examples of people asking things like "How long a walk to the beach is it," "How warm is the beach in the summer," "Can I cook on the beach," etc.
My ideal search in this situation would be:
