Later:
discovered that at the least the column widths issue is an ongoing one.
Controlling the width of columns

Why do columns keep changing width?

..
Most probably I just found the solution..
1. I have installed X1 program into F:\X1
2. the indexes are being stored into N:\X1 Indexes\X1 Search
(N being a encrypted container)
3. I am launching X1 manually after opening the container file
When I exit X1 (File->Exit) and then, thereafter, close the container, the settings may be affected because of the 2 running processes.
(the ones that are not 'unloaded' - see my other mail).
I just tried to exit X1 (not close the encrypted container) relaunched it - everything is fine.
A solution may be that the all files, ini, xml, whatever, are stored in program files (F:\X1), not along with the indexfiles.
Seems to me that this would make more senses...?
