Hello,
does the title bar look like this (with semi-transparent glass effect) even if you are in Win 7 Basic theme?
One more thing to try - locate X1.exe (by default it should be installed in C:\Program Files\X1 Search 8 or C:\Program Files (x86)\X1 Search 8.
Then, right-click on X1.exe, select Properties from the menu, and then go to the Compatibility tab. There should be checkboxes : "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition". Try checking them both and then running X1.
About the Outlook preview problem - can you put the x1preview.html file somewhere where it will be indexed by the File scanner, and then see if the preview of the file will work correctly.
Also, in the Outlook preview, can you right-click in the preview window, then on Encoding and then try to change the encoding to another value (Unicode UTF-8, Western European ...)
