Column width changing

High on my wishlist is that column widths can firmly be set
For one reason or the other, they are changing at regular intervals
Pretty frustrating.
Once I 'set' the column widths, it is okay for a while, but then all of a sudden, when changing views or whatever
the settings seem to be lost.
