Far be it for me to defend X1, they can look after themselves, but they are a lot better than one of the companies responsible for the software you mentioned.

Nuance, proud owner of Dragon and other software that I use, deserves a gold medal in how to annoy customers. It uses an activation regime that treats every customer as a software pirate – sadly, X1 has started the journey down a similar road – and has never knowingly provided technical support.

X1 may be slow to fix what you and I consider to be a major bug, but at least the company's staff turn up here from time to time.
