But you aren't the first person to be confused by the different views. I was. And you are right in suggesting that there could be better guidance.

Table View is just like an Excel table, or the details view in File Explorer - it shows columns and one-row cells with data for each result. The user can re-arrange the columns and select which columns to be displayed.

Tile View consists of pre-defined tiles for each result, showing some fixed information appropriate for each result type. Usually they are two lines high, but can be more. They cannot be customized by the user. The refine headers above the tiles were added later, and they are a bit confusing because they look too much like column headers.
