If you know the locations of the technical manuals, then you can limit the search to those locations.

Just use the Table View to limit the search by typing enough information into the Path column to home in on the appropriate locations. You can separate different locations with the OR modifier.

If these are all PDF files, then use the Type column, you may have to add it, to limit the search. (I always create a Saved Search for PDF files and use that as the basis of any new search for PDF files.)

When you have set up a basic search that looks in the right places, you can then save that search and recall it whenever you want to find another technical manual.

If your documents are not filed in a way that allows you to do this, then you might want to create a filing system with folders that would allow you to find what you want more easily. X1 can only work with the system on offer. If your filing is a mess, then X1 will need a lot more help from you.

As your question is about one of the basic features of X1, you might want to spend a bit of time with the manuals and tutorials. It could save you a lot of head scratching, and time, in future.
