I had something similar happen in the earlier 8.0.0 release when I setup the index on my "f:\" drive. I then changed the drive letter to "e:\" via Computer Management -> Disk Management -> Change Drive Letter and Paths.
I suspect that X1 does not properly handle pre-configured paths that become invalid (?)
